Shared Cities: European Prize for Urban Public Space, Royal Academy
Sensational architectural design gets centre stage at the Royal Academy Shared Cities exhibition of 2014 European Prize for Urban Public Space nominees
The Royal Academy of Arts celebrates the twenty five most spectacular projects shortlisted for the 2014 European Prize for Urban Public Space with one of our favourite architecture exhibitions in London this summer.
Royal Academy exhibition 2015
Hosted with the Architecture Foundation, the prize takes a peak at the best projects which have improved public spaces and made the urban jungle into a paradise. With cities growing at a rapid pace in Europe, this exhibition highlights some of the finest innovations of urban spaces, including the Architekturzentrum Wien (Vienna), la Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine (Paris), the Architecture Foundation (London), the Museum of Finnish Architecture (helsinki), the Museum of Architecture and Design (Ljubljana) and the Deutsches Architekturmuseum (Frankfurt).
Special events
There are two events alongside the RA show to get involved with. Take me to the River: a journey from Rainham to the Thames on 21st July (6.30 - 8.30pm) turns the spotlight on architect Peter Beard and others who have been working to open up Rainham. The panel will discuss remodelling existing landmarks and creating a brand new library, nursery and housing project by Maccreanor Lavington for the area. Tickets are £6 and architecture enthusiasts will want to book here.
On 7th August (6.30 - 8.30pm) it's the turn of British and Dutch architects to take the stage and discuss the practice of urban design and pioneering projects by firms such as East Architecture and Hans van der Heijden Architects. Click here to book your spot.
