Jerwood Makers Open 2015

The Jerwood Makers Open exhibition is a fantastic way to discover the rising stars of the craft world in the south London Jerwood Space this summer. Back for its fifth edition, the show features the five new talents that received awards and funding from the Jerwood Charitable Foundation's Jerwood Visual Arts programme back in 2014, with brand new projects that are pushing the boundaries in the applied arts. 
Highlights
Featured at the show are a number of new materials and techniques that will push the casting process to the limits. Look out for Silo Studio - RCA graduates Attua Aparicio and Oscar Wanless - and their radical new way of casting bowls.  We are also looking forward to Ian McIntyre's industrial ceramics inspired by potter Isaac Button. These towering columns of white ceramic tableware are made up of hundreds of plates, cups and bowls. Zachary Eastwood-Bloom turns to the relationship between digitisation and materiality for his ambitious project of a ceramic wall made of hand-crafted mesh-like cubes.
But our favourite has to be Malene Hartmann Rasmussen's fantastic ceramic forest, inspired by domestic and natural environments taken from Rasmusen's whimsical daydreams and childhood memories. Stroll through a strange land of life-sized trees, flora and fauna made of hand-crafted ceramics. Also high on our list is Jasleen Kaur and her blend of Indian and western influences in a trio of portrait busts of her great-grandfather, who was the first person in her family to make the journey from India to Glasgow; influential Palestinian American writer Edward Said and Lord Napier, whose family have been central in the narrative of British India.
