Short Courses for under 18's

Encompassing everything from photography and styling, fashion and business media, design and garment production design to make-up, the London College of Fashion's unique programme of short fashion courses for 14-18 year olds is delivered throughout the summer from June to August. Here are our top recommendations:

Fashion Styling Workshop

The role of a fashion stylist plays a pivotal part of the fashion industry. For one week in August students learn then tricks of the trade of a successful fashion stylist, how to start a career in styling and deliver high quality work. Included in this three day course is a photoshoot with a professional photographer.

Fashion Styling and Media Summer School

If your children are interested in fashion but perhaps not in design, then this two-week hands on intensive fashion media course will introduce them to the exciting worlds of PR, photography, catwalks, fashion journalism, styling and make up-artistry, culminating in the creation of their own editorial and style blog.

Fashion Journalism Course

Offering an insight into one of the most coveted jobs in the fashion industry, this fashion journalism course teaches teenage how to write about the industry, and what it takes to be successful writing about the inspiration behind Christopher Kane's latest collection or H&M's hottest celebrity collaboration

Fashion Design and Making Summer School

Discover how the world's greatest designers research, record and communicate their ideas with this two week course in August. Start the week with a trip to a London museum to see a current exhibition (explore the best fashion exhibitions on in London here) accompanied by LCF tutors guiding students through creating a sketchbook full of research and inspiration.

Fashion Drawing

Drawing is essential in the fashion design process. This fashion drawing course explores drawing techniques for fashion design at every stage. Students study the human figure, experiment with different materials, learn ways to record your creative ideas and put together a body of work under the guidance of illustrator Ana Stankovic-Fitzgerald.


Residential Summer Schools for 14-16 year olds

The London College of Fashion has two, two-week long residential summer schools which between them cover the basics of the great machinery of the fashion industry. Youngsters in need of summer entertainment and looking for a head-start in this most competitive of industries get to choose between Fashion Design and Making and Fashion Styling and Media.

The courses are held at Queens Anne’s School, Caversham, where students will board for two weeks. On weekdays, students will take part in timetabled classroom-based learning, and in the evenings there will be optional, scheduled activities. On the Saturday mid-way through the course there will be an escorted day trip to London for a fashion ‘Retail Safari’.

Fashion Design and Making

Taught by fashion designer Kavita Kumari, LCF teacher Heidi Stokes and costumier Claire Porter, Fashion Design and Making teaches teenagers the realities in a career in fashion design, from garment making and textiles to research. You will start the week with a trip to a London museum or current exhibition, accompanied by LCF tutors who will guide you in creating your own sketchbook full of research and inspiration.

Fashion Styling and Media

Like it's sister non-residential course (see above) students with a love of fashion but not interested in design are offered this two-week fashion media course introducing teenagers to the world of PR, photography, catwalks, fashion journalism, styling and make-up artistry. By the end of the two weeks, students create their own photo shoot and style blog.
