After Hours at Barnsbury Hall
The team at Barnsbury Hall invite guests to 'dine with design' this March, taking them on a Nordic culinary adventure with their folklore-inspired design.
Scandinavian restaurants in London are all the rage. Now comes a pop up restaurant with a Nordic twist: the Victorian Music Hall at Aria in Islington will be transformed next Tuesday into a woodland restaurant, inspired by their new range of kitchenware Tanssi.
The team at Scandinavian design hub Aria, Barnsbury Hall will be curating the event led by designer Klaus Haapaniemi, and inviting guests to experience their stylish and delicate design, whilst feasting on a Nordic-inspired menu. The event will be celebrating the release of Iitalla’s latest range Tanssi, which translates from Finnish to 'dance'. This latest collaboration between Klaus Haapaniemi and Iittala is, we're told, inspired by the designs for the Finnish National Opera production of The Cunning Little Vixen. Keeping in ‘tradition’ with Haapaniemi’s whimsical designs, the Tanssi range aims to bring the magic and charm of the 'Little Vixen' to life: you're also invited to meet the designer.
The menu will be curated to meet the theme, aiming to transport diners to the Nordic forest with a five-course Scandinavian menu. On the menu to start is an old man's relish with spiced anchovy and egg – and, since no Scandinavian menu is complete without salmon, they'll also be serving up a salmon trio with trio of accompaniments. This will be followed by jerusalem artichoke soup, with pan fried wild Girolles mushrooms, and main of cured wild venison with 'flavours of Nordic forest', served up with remoulade and frazzled onion. To follow there'll be serving up västerbottenost: matured Swedish cheese accompanied by fig compôte, and a Fennel and caraway knäckebröd: classic Nordic crisp bread. Finally, to finish up the authentic Scandinavian line-up, they'll be dishing up a delectable sounding little cardamom kakor: cardamom and butter shortbread with saffron fudge.
For the £38 ticket price diners can expect in addition to the five-courses, drinks and a gift bag including an item from Aria's latest range of bespoke kitchenware. An enticing event that offers hungry design-hunters the chance to shop – while they drop.
Ticket sales close on Monday 23rd so be sure to book ahead.
