Tord Boontje & Emma Woffenden: Originals, Sotheby's
Sotheby’s selling exhibition in London offers a rare chance to snap up innovative glassware, designs and artwork by Tord Boontje and Emma Woffenden
Glassware innovators Tord Boontje and Emma Woffenden combine forces once again in this selling exhibition, Originals at Sotheby’s, London. This design event is curated by Janice Blackburn, who made a name working for Charles Saatchi, and now works for Sotheby’s Auction House.
The dynamic duo Boontje and Woffenden first met in 1992 at the Royal College of Art, London and went on to set up the transglass project together five years later. Internationally acclaimed designer Tord Boontje and sculptor Woffenden share a fascination with glass and the use of light and shadow to consider broader issues like sexuality, birth and death.
The Dutch designer Boontje, now based in London, is best known for his exquisite glassware which embodies a unique sense of magic and romance. His unfathomable creations include a collection of Swarovski crystal chandeliers, glassware for Dartington Crystal and even eyewear for the iconic fashion designer Alexander McQueen.
Woffenden herself began life as a glass maker, which now take the more potent form of sculptural forms that grasp at abstract sensations. Her work can be found in the Victoria and Albert Museum and other craft institutions.
Don’t miss Boontje’s acclaimed furniture, lighting, jewellery and textiles alongside Woffenden’s sculptures and drawings in this quiet, but powerful Sotheby’s art exhibition.
