This October well-known design heavyweights are pitted against one another in the battle for one of architecture’s most exalted accolades – The Royal Institute of British Architect’s ‘Stirling Prize’ - design’s answer to The Booker.

Amongst the six shortlisted architects are Zaha Hadid for the London Aquatics Centre, Haworth Tompkins for Liverpool’s Everyman Theatre, and Renzo Piano - the architect of this year’s most dizzying build - The Shard. With half the shortlist here in London, it’s worth taking a look at these architectural feats yourself.

Piano, one of the architects behind Paris’s controversial modern art gallery, the Pompidou Centre, currently comes in as the bookies favourite, nudging two-time winner Hadid into second place.  A panel of industry experts will have the difficult task of choosing a winner – announced on the 16th of October. Aficionados may want to attend the awards presentation, but reach deep into your pockets, this three-course black tie supper comes in at an eye watering £180.
