ZooNation Youth Company make an explosive return to the Southbank with The Next Generation 2018, a show by the young, for the young
The Southbank Centre’s exciting summer programme continues with The Next Generation 2018, brought to us by ZooNation Youth Company (ZYC) under the direction of Rhimes Lecointe. The programme is billed as a night of dance and music talent created by the young, for the young, and as such is a great family occasion just as the summer holidays get underway.
Featuring a cast of under-21s,The Next Generation 2018 follows on from phenomenally popular past ZYC projects such as the BAFTA short film The Holloway Laundrette and an appearance at the opening ceremony at the London 2012 Olympics. The evening will feature dance and the spoken word, with DJs and singers providing the young performers with just the right background for their dynamic dancing.
As the youth company of ZooNation – one of Britain’s top hip hop ensembles – ZYC has been growing and developing over the past decade. It brings together some of the best young hip-hoppers from across the UK.
Its aim is to develop the next generation of hip hop dancers and promote the genre’s rich community spirit and innovative choreography – qualities which have been in evidence in its performances at the Southbank Centre, where it's an Associate Company, and will be on show again this summer.
This year's director, Rhimes Lecointe, is a dancer, actress and choreographer, who cut her performing teeth with the hugely successful Blue Boy Entertainment. She's since assembled her own all-female dance crew, Boadicea, and has been a judge in the BBC's Young Dancer competition.
