Resolution 2107, The Place

Resolution is the UK’s biggest dance festival for emerging artists. Always bold, it gives developing dancemakers the opportunity to test the limits of their art-form on an established London stage.

While not everything will be to everyone’s taste, the excitement for audiences is spotting breakthrough choreographers who will shape the future of dance. For instance, Wayne McGregor is just one of many notable artists who have had an early outing at Resolution in bygone years.

Resolution 2017 will offer inquisitive dance lovers the chance to sample three brand new short works each night, with a total of 78 performances across a range of dance styles lined up throughout the event.

Some of the artists looking forward to challenging expectations of what contemporary dance is by presenting new pieces at Resolution 2017 include Bridget Lappin, Mathieu Geffré and Stephen Quildan. Their individual creations form the programme scheduled for Saturday 28 January.

Mathieu Geffré’s duet What Songs May Do examines the potential of song to galvanise audience members. A couple attend a performance featuring Nina Simone’s ‘Feelings’ and find the song interferes with their own relationship.


A female body morphs between the animalistic persona of a tiger and the femininity of her physical identity as a woman in Who’s Afraid of a Pussy Cat? by Bridget Lappin. This solo explores themes of beauty, power and perception and fearlessly channels the potency of raw energy.

Stephen Quildan asks “what is the dance of Grime?” in Not Hard. The Rambert dancer will answer this question through movement driven by the music of London’s youth culture.
