Rambert Contemporaries/The Creation, Sadler's Wells

Contemporaries, a triple bill of new works, makes up the first programme, proving that the company may be approaching its centenary, but its outlook remains youthful and creative.

The programme showcases a new generation of choreographers, whose works explore the perpetually relevant themes of art, capitalism, identity, migration and society.

The mixed bill will feature the London premières of a new work by Malgorzata Dzierzon and Patricia Okenwa’s Hydrargyrum alongside Alexander Whitley’s remarkable Frames.

This last sets the dancers the challenge of constructing their set on stage, resulting in an intensely dramatic work showing off Rambert's impressive technical skill, leaping, twisting and flying through their pliable structures.


The second programme is made up of a remarkable staging of composer Joseph Haydn’s most famous and enduring masterpiece, The Creation.

A dance about the creation of Earth, the piece is choreographed by Rambert Artistic Director Mark Baldwin to the lyrical arias and monumental choruses of Haydn’s resplendent classical score.

Both works have been commissioned as part of the Rambert at 90 programme. This series of performances and events celebrates the company’s collaborations across a variety of art forms, alongside its commitment to championing emerging talent and the key role heritage plays in the company’s artistic vision.

For The Creation, a cast of over 50 dancers from Rambert and the Rambert School will be joined on stage by 70 musicians for a performance on a truly grand scale.

The Creation is on on Thursday 10th, Friday 11th and Saturday 12th November (price £12-45).
No performance on Wednesday, 9th November.
