Titanium: Rojas and Rodriguez, Peacock Theatre
A feisty fusion of flamenco, hip hop and break dancing will excite audiences of Titanium at London’s Peacock Theatre throughout May.
Flamenco duo Ángel Rojas and Carlos Rodríguez present the UK premiere of their unique union between vibrant flamenco and other spectacular street dance styles.
Titanium is their most ambitious production to date. It follows hot on the heels of The Gala Flamenca, directed by Rojas and starring Rodríguez,, which was one of the highlights of this year’s Flamenco Festival at Sadler’s Wells.
Flamboyant flamenco, raw hip hop and edgy break dance share a rich history of improvised movement, dance battles and live music. They have evolved from spontaneous means of self-expressions in the streets into highly stylised and technically complex art forms..
Titanium essentially pays homage to these diverse urban dance traditions.
Three flamenco dancers, three hip hop dancers and three break dancers are accompanied by a live band of four musicians, forming a cast of thirteen talented men. Expect fiery passion, palpable energy and intoxicating beats.
Rojas and Rodríguez are co-founders and directors of the Nuevo Ballet Español. Both artists trained under great flamenco masters, including the likes of José Granero, Luisillo, Rafael Aguilar and José Antonio Ruiz.
During the last two decades, Rojas and Rodríguez have developed a reputation for creating pioneering flamenco work infused with contemporary disciplines and inspired by a multitude of cultural influences.
Titanium maintains their flamenco roots while challenging what we’ve come to expect of the limitations of different dance disciplines.
As well as providing the chance to see Rojas and Rodríguez dance, Titanium features Elihú Vázquez, the nine-times winner of the b-boy championship of Andalucía.
Variety is the spice of life and Titanium combines a tantalising mixture of flavours. The show has won a National Dance award in Spain and received high praise in a tour across Europe. Relish the assortment on offer in this almighty amalgamation!
