Scottish Dance Theatre: Innocence, Southbank Centre

Scotland’s most inquisitive dance company bring their engaging dance show for toddlers and young children to the Southbank Centre.

Scottish Dance Theatre
In the open space of the Southbank Centre’s foyer, children and their grown-ups will be invited to sit around four SDT dancers, as they bring to life the world of William Blake’s Songs of Innocence. That might sound like rather serious fare for the average four year old, but the man behind ‘Tiger tiger, burning bright,’ had an eye and ear for colour, mystery and fun, and SDT draw this out with oodles of energy.
Fleur Darkin, choreographer and Artistic Director of SDT, has created a safe, sunny show well suited to its small targets. As you shelter from the rain under green paper or stretch out wings like the dancers to fly, no-one bats an eye if an audience member toddles into the midst of the performance.
The original score by Paul Bradley mixes folksy guitar and a dash of beatbox to great effect, and the movement is interspersed with tree-building and exploring. Gentle and short, this is an ideal introduction to contemporary dance.

Aimed at children aged 3-7.
