Currency Festival, The Place
A challenging and exuberant mix of art, the Currency Festival brings circus, music, beer-drinking and who knows what else from across Europe to London.
Vanilla it isn’t. But if you’re ready to be challenged, you’ll find much to marvel at and enjoy in the Currency Festival over four delirious days in November.
Billing itself as “provocative, playful, experimental and subversive,” the Festival is a collaboration between London’s foremost centre for contemporary dance, The Place, and a number of European cultural organisations. Its aim is to connect London audiences with a wide range of artists from across the continent.
Are you ready for a pop up interactive café where food meets art? Where Hunt & Darton, dressed in their iconic fruit and veg attire bid you join their playful and bizarre performances involving food tasting with a twist?
Would you like to be the first to sample a collaboration between an established choreographer and a contemporary circus artist brought together on an impromptu Blind Date?
Do you take fetishism in your stride? Relish theatre of the absurd? Above all, do you want to keep up with cutting-edge developments in theatre and performance in Finland, the Czech Republic and Spain (to mention but a few participating countries)? And do you welcome an opportunity to meet the artists and exchange views in informal workshops?
Then the Currency Festival is definitely for you! Come and be prepared to pitch in – and do let us know how it felt!
A final word of warning - not suitable for under-16s.
