Wendy Houstoun - Pact with Pointlessness

Having been at the Southbank Centre this summer, Pact with Pointlessness arrives at The Place. It is the latest work by dance/theatre artist, Wendy Houstoun, one of the most gifted independent performers of her generation. In a solo piece involving movement and speech, Houstoun gives us a funny, moving and fragmented look at how it feels ‘to be knocked sideways by death and carry on.’ 
Described by The Independent as ‘a maverick to the tips of her toes’, Houstoun uses language and video to create work that is both sophisticated and accessible. More importantly, perhaps, in the words of the critic Allen Robertson, she ‘seems to be showing us that dance is not necessarily a country reserved for the young’.
Houstoun has in the past collaborated  with DV8 Physical Theatre and performance artist Rose English. Her previous work, 50Acts, dealing with the experience of ageing won the 2013 TMA award for achievement in dance and was nominated for the Critics Circle National Dance Awards.
