Imago, Pett/Clausen-Knight, Lanterns Studio Theatre
Ballet Nights Spotlight at the Lanterns Studio Theatre hosts the UK premiere of Imago, by the engaging British duo Pett/Clausen-Knight
Ballet Nights, the regular compered dance events that have been brightening up the evenings in Canary Wharf, continue this Spring with a different format: rather than presenting a varied collection of short dance pieces, Ballet Nights Spotlight concentrates on just one piece, which will have its UK premiere then: Imago, by the male duo Pett/Clausen-Knight.
Formerly with Company Wayne McGregor, James Pett and Travis Clausen-Knight are Ballet Nights regulars: in its the most recent edition they danced the electrifying duet Nerve Wire. Now they're monoplising the stage with Imago.
Set to a score by their usual collaborator, James Pett's brother Sean, Imago features 12 chapters, each with a different musical score to illustrate the varying moods of the piece. Relying strongly on the symbolism of flowers, Imago looks at human relationships and their dysfunctions, with the feelings of mistrust and isolation that may result.
Those who attended the recent Ballet Icons Gala at the Coliseum were able to sample a short excerpt from Imago, enough to whet the appetite for what's to come.
And as is always the case with Ballet Nights shows, after the one hour performance there will time and space to meet and talk to the dancers.
