Clowns is a macabre yet comic portrayal of a group of murderous circus performers, last seen in London early this year as part of the inaugural programme of Hofesh Shechter’s junior company, Shechter II.

Commissioned by the BBC as part of its Performance Live strand, Clowns has now undergone a makeover to turn it from a stage to a TV show. Directed, choreographed and composed by Hofesh Shechter, himself a musician as well as choreographer, the TV version of Clowns was shot on location at the Rivoli Ballroom in South London.

Ten extremely talented dancers from Hofesh Shechter’s multinational company will enact a tale that moves from vaguely disquieting to openly shocking, as the clowns enact an insistent series of graphic murders, all this to Shechter’s trademark loud, percussive and strangely contagious score.

At 30 minutes it will prove an intense and hugely satisfying experience; should you miss the broadcast, Clowns will be available on iPlayer for a further 30 days.
