Risk-taking on stage is no longer exclusive to contemporary theatre or the odd experimental Shakespeare production. With Aurora Orchestra’s latest artistic hybrid Smoke and Mirrors, it is now possible to experience the best of both worlds: Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony and Mary Shelley’s renowned novel as told through the zany ‘pan-demonium’ that is composer HK Gruber’s Frankenstein!!.

Exploring 19th century macabre through the gothic expression of two unrivalled artists as well as ghostly lighting and effects, Smoke and Mirrors is no ordinary classical concert. And if that doesn’t impress you enough, then perhaps the chamber orchestra playing Beethoven’s unmistakable chef-d'oeuvre from memory will.

While it may be believed that classical music is only enjoyable for its loyal aficionados, Aurora Orchestra strives to make the likes of Bach and Mozart accessible to even the most unlikely of listeners. With 30,000 viewers and 80 concerts a year, since its founding in 2005 Aurora Orchestra has gained a reputation as the driving force behind the renaissance of classical music performance today.

Showing for one night only, Smoke and Mirrors is set to be a truly unique performance. You have to see it to believe it.
