Barbican screening of Sergei Eisenstein’s masterpiece, October
Soviet director Sergei Eisenstein’s masterpiece October: Ten Days that Shook the World is being screened before live music by the London Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican this October
26 October is the 100 year anniversary of the Bolshevik Revolution and the storming of the Winter Palace. To commemorate this extraordinary moment in history, Kino Klassika Foundation is presenting the British premiere of world-renowned Soviet film director Sergei Eisenstein's cinematic masterpiece, October (1928) accompanied by the London Symphony Orchestra and a new restoration of the original Edmund Meisel score.
October is a highlight of the Barbican’s year-long Film in Focus programme. Already world-famous for Battleship Potemkin (1924) in October Sergei Eisenstein took his radical conception of cinema to a daring new level, combining epic moments from the Petrograd uprising with powerful images of revolutionary spirit.
Today, October is often considered to be one of the most iconic films of the 20th century. Bringing fresh-life to this classic movie, The Barbican is hosting a live performance of Edmund Meisel's original score by London Symphony Orchestra and leading film in concert conductor Frank Strobel.
Culture Whisper members are being exclusively invited to attend the screening. Tickets are limited but can be picked up from the Barbican box office on the night.
