Songs for tenor, baritone and bass in a Schubert trilogy

With his incomparable gift for setting poetry to music, Schubert could sum up in one word and one haunting note a whole host of human emotions. So what happens if you translate the text into English? That is the challenge explored in a series of three concerts opening on 23 Oct with the tenor Toby Spence performing Die Schöne Mullerin as The Beautiful Maid of the Mill, in a new translation by Jeremy Sams. On 6 Nov, the baritone Roderick Williams sings Winter's Journey (Die Winterreise), and on 11 Dec the bass Sir John Tomlinson concludes the experiment with Swansong (Schwanengesang).
Booking opens 31st May
