Pravin Godkhindi, Queen Elizabeth Hall
Indian flute player Pravin Godkhindi to play one off concert at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in March, as part of the Southbank Centre's 'Music for the Mind and Soul' series.
Pravin Godkhindi will take over the Queen Elizabeth Hall this March, bringing to London his unique music that blends his Indian roots with Western influence. Born in the Indian state of Karnataka, Pravin trained rigorously on the traditional Bansuri flute, in the Indian ‘Thankrakari’ style. Despite a brief sojourn in electrical engineering, Pravin is now considered a master of his craft.
He’s won several awards over the last few years, and developed a devoted following, enchanting audiences with his musical language. Immediate, although unusual to average English ears - his music is tied intimately to his Hindu spirituality. He’ll be accompanied by Kousic Sen, a world renowned player of the tabla – a wonderful Indian drum played intricately with the hands at frightening speeds.
It’s a one off event, as part of the South Bank’s Music for the Mind and Soul series, exploring music’s bond with spirituality. Even if Indian music isn’t normally to your taste, we’d recommend it as a chance to see true masters at work. Like that of his hero Ravi Shankar, Pravin’s music appeals to an audience much wider than that of his homeland. Get booking.
