The outstanding Italian pianist, Maurizio Pollini, is in his seventies and still going strong. It was his Chopin that won him the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw when he was just eighteen, and he swiftly became the world-renowned unique star that he is today.

What is he playing this time, I hear you ask? Well, Chopin of course. Yes, the sumptuous romantic melodies of the great composer will provide the icing on the cake with a little Debussy cherry popped on the top for extra pleasure. If you like French piano music, this is set to be an indulgent evening.

Pollini will play Chopin’s Prelude in C sharp minor , Ballade No.2 in F , Sonata No.2 in B flat minor (Marche funèbre)
and, after the interval, Debussy’s Préludes , Book 1.

This concert is the first of just two by Maurizio Pollini in the International Piano Series . His most recent concert series on the Southbank was The Pollini Project , which went down a storm with critics. He even won a Royal Philharmonic Society award for his last concert series.

It’s a good idea to book ahead for this one. The critics are anticipating great things from the  International Piano Series. Tickets are on sale now and already going fast. Be sure not to miss out on this Italian piano legend.
