The Spirit of Sturm and Drang, Wigmore Hall

Storm and stress from the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra

The music of Haydn, Mozart and the Bach family is so firmly embedded in our musical heritage that it is easy to forget that these were composers who in their day were often radical and surprising. Freiburg Baroque Orchestra under Kristian Bezuidenhout, who directs from the keyboard, recapture the dynamism of compositions that would have had 18th-century audiences on the edge of their Baroque seats. The unique attack of the fortepiano and the scintillating sound of the orchestra's period instruments will bring vigour to Haydn's Symphony No 52, works by CPE and JC Bach, and Mozart's Piano Concerto No 14.
