FitzFest summer music festival

A summer festival of music featuring instruments made in Fitzrovia, pieces with local associations, and a round-the-clock installation by Scanner

Daniel Bates, oboist with the OAE and director of FitzFest
Tucked behind the elegant facades of Fitzrovia, from Marylebone to Bloomsbury, a new summer music festival celebrates the area's long association with classical music. Rare events include a performance of Weber's much-loved Clarinet Quintet in the room in which the composer died - now in Portland Place School, and the Orchestra of the Age of the Enlightenment will give two concerts on instruments crafted in Fitzrovia in previous centuries (10 June, All Saints, Margaret Street).

There will also be free yoga and exercise classes to live music, guided walks on a musical theme, and a new work, Middlesex Voice by electonic musician Scanner, aka Robin Rimbaud, who scored The Big Dance in Trafalgar Square for the London 2012 Olympics. The piece will run 24 hours a day throughout the festival, in Middlesex Hospital Chapel, from 8 to 12 June.
