Proms 18 & 19, Royal Albert Hall
Two performances in one night: the conductor Bernard Haitink takes on Mahler before a David Bowie prom special
The modern concert-goer has no problem switching effortlessly from Mahler to The Man Who Fell to Earth. On this “Super Friday” the Austrian composer’s monumental and otherworldly Symphony No 3 is followed by the Late Night Prom featuring musicians’ collective s t a r g a z e in a tribute to David Bowie, whose music, up until his death this year, is revisited in new arrangements with guest artists.
