Beethoven's 32 piano sonatas span 40 years of the composer's career and encapsulate all the elements of his unique style – dashing innovation, bold explorations, and tenderness and strength in equal measure. This powerful and inventive cycle is at the heart of a 10-concert series from 28 Sep to 13 June 2017. The sonatas are played not chronologically but in groups that contrast periods and moods. And it is hard to imagine this cycle in a more expressive pair of hands than those of the exciting Russian pianist Igor Levit. Surely a recording will follow.
