The return of conductor Marin Alsop: Proms 2016 presents Verdi's Requiem with the voices of the BBC Proms Youth Choir

Verdi's intensely dramatic Requiem - his memorial to this year's featured composer Rossini - is given fresh verve by the young voices of the BBC Proms Youth Choir in a Prom that promises to be outstanding.

Marin Alsop conducts the period instruments of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and an impressive line-up of soloists will tackle the emotionally-charged arias: Tamara Wilson (soprano), Alisa Kolosova (mezzo-soprano), Michael Fabiano (tenor) and Morris Robinson (bass). When first performed, the Requiem was thought too vivid an expression of grief and fear to be sung in church, and today it is enjoyed by audiences for its passionate arias and operatic scale.
