Conductor Vladimir Jurowski helms the London Philharmonic Orchestra: Proms 2016 stages Beethoven Choral Symphony No 9
Beethoven’s Choral Symphony No 9 is one of the traditional landmarks of the Proms, and on this occasion Vladimir Jurowski conducts the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir with a stellar line-up of international soloists: Miah Persson (soprano), Anna Stéphany (mezzo-soprano), John Daszak (tenor) and Christopher Purves (bass).

The radical composer, envisaging a united world, put in place of the traditional symphonic final movement a setting of Friedrich Schiller’s Ode to Joy - “all people shall be brothers”, the “national anthem” of the EU. This momentous symphony is prefaced by a new work by the Finnish composer Magnus Lindberg.
