The Women, BFI
A hilarious Hollywood classic with an all-female cast: this film is on trend for 2018
Let’s hear it for the girls: this year is
about the ladies taking control. In this spirit, the BFI are screening the 1939
classic film The Women.
Gal power is nothing new: the women in this comedy are most definitely wearing the (metaphorical) trousers. The bold script, by Hollywood great Anita Loos, follows a group of them as they toy with men, picking them up and discarding them at will.
The wit is sharp and the claws are out. The ensemble cast is all-female – there is not a man in sight – and stars the likes of Joan Crawford, a darling of American classic cinema, and Norma Shearer (five-time Oscar nominee).
This film is laugh-out-loud funny and reminds us that fierce and independent women are nothing new.
Culture Whisper is offering free pairs of tickets to Gold Whisper members to see The Women. Book now to avoid disappointment.
