MayFest: Men of Mystery

Outdoor cinema screen at The Dulwich Picture Gallery celebrates the work of Hitchcock and the artist Eric Ravilious whom he inspired.

MayFest: Men of Mystery
Dulwich Picture Gallery has announced a weekend-long festival of events to celebrate the connection between the work of Alfred Hitchcock and Eric Ravilious, whose watercolours were inspired by the brooding, mysterious atmosphere of Hitchcock’s films.
The events are to coincide with Ravilious’s new exhibition at the gallery, the first major retrospective of his work, for which tours will be running throughout the festival.

The keystones of the weekend will be outdoor cinema screenings of Rear Window and The 39 Steps, two of Hitchcock’s best-known thrillers, to take place in Dulwich Picture Gallery’s beautiful grounds. The festival will also include some themed family workshops, to cater for espionage fans of all ages.
The organisers have put together a programme of complementary activites for guests, such as a free swing-dance class before the films, and a pop-up vintage shop to complete the 1930s feel. To replenish your energy post-boogie and pre-film, sweet treats from Propercorn and Sugar Mountain will be on offer, as well as a clutch of stalls from West Norwood Feast.
