First is Carrie, a classic horror movie based on Stephen King’s first novel that explores the chilling consequences of a teenage girl pushed over the edge by the cruelty of classmates.
Next is De Palma’s iconic bloody crime thriller Scarface, starring Al Pacino and Michelle Pfeiffer. This famous film tells the story of Tony Montana (Al Pacina) who gets a green card in exchange for assassinating a Cuban government official and rises to Miami drug lord dominance, viciously murdering anyone who stands in his way.
Dressed to Kill, being shown mid-month, is a bloodcurdling update of one of Alfred Hitchcock’s late 70’s films that involves sex, murder, and Michael Caine.
Then comes The Untouchables; written by David Mamet and starring Robert De Niro,
Kevin Costner, and Sean Connery with music from Ennio Morricone and costumes by Giorgio Armani. This crime drama is about a federal agent’s attempts to stop legendary crime figure Al Capone, who landed an Oscar win for Connery.
To finish off the month, don’t miss deeply unsettling voyeuristic drama Blow Out, one of De Palma’s more political films, which stars John Travolta as a soundman who inadvertently records the murder of a Presidential hopeful.
