Son of a Gun
This new film on at cinema now with Ewan McGregor, Brendon Thwaites, and the latest of movies starring Alicia Vikander looks to be a thrilling action movie with a lot of bite.
New films out now include Son of a Gun, fresh-faced Australian director Julius Avery's successful foray into the world of high budget cinema. Until now, Avery has been the creator behind a series of successful short films (Yardbird, Jerrycan and Little Man), but with the helping hand of Hollywood pros Ewan McGregor (The Island, Trainspotting) and Brendon Thwaites (Maleficient, Oculus), in Avery's latest film release the director hopes to be scaling up his undoubted abilities as a writer/director. The film also features rising star Alicia Vikander, who has recently sprung into the spotlight with an array of hit blockbuster films on in London cinemas now, which include the likes of Ex Machina and Testament of Youth, and who has a host of others coming up later this year.
Son of a Gun is an edge-of-your-seat crime thriller, initially set in the pressure-cooker environment of an Australian prison. New inmate JR (played by Thwaites) intends to serve out his sentence with minimal trouble, but is soon forced to accept protection from the nation’s public enemy number one Brendan Lynch (played by McGregor). So begins a tangled web of morally agonising debts to his protector that JR must carry out, including (once he is released) aiding Lynch in a high stakes prison-break operation.
The film promises to be a tense thriller that doesn't take itself too seriously - well-trodden characters and fast-paced car chases are presented with knowing nods to their own insincerity – cinema reviews have been mixed, but Son of a Gun will be light-hearted, fun entertainment and with the likes of McGregor holding the audience’s eye, it is sure to keep viewers gripped from start to finish. One the most thrilling new films out in the cinema, catch Son of A Gun from Friday 30th January. Son of a Gun movie reviews to come.
