The LOCO London Comedy Film Festival, BFI
With the BFI among the best places to watch classic films in London, their 2015 comedy festival is the perfect way to allay January blues, showcasing classic comedy alongside new releases.
If you're after things to do in January in London, head down to the BFI Southbank for a some old fashioned comic relief. The LOCO Film Festival is returning to the BFI for four days this month, showcasing the best in comic world cinema. A number of films will be screened in the UK for the first time, including Lost in Karastan (January 22nd), a meta-comedy from Ben Hopkins and Pawel Pawilkowski (of Ida fame) about a British film director who is asked by the president of the fictional Karastan to film the country's national epic. Hopkins will also be giving a Q&A after the screening, as will a number of other directors throughout the festival, including Hugh Sullivan, on the 23rd of January, for his time travel rom-com Infinite Man, starring comic favourites Josh McConville, Hannah Marshall and Alex Dimitriades.
Other noteworthy entrants include Cal McCrystal's The Bubonic Play which will receive its world premier at the festival – McCrystal is a known expert in physical comedy, as well as being a celebrated theatre director, and this film – his début offering – is a curious black comedy, set in the medieval period. Be sure to catch McCrystal in conversation after the screening on January 24th
Among the better known films being screened during the festival are two Robin Williams classics; Disney's Aladdin and The Fisher King, as well as Robert Zemeckis' classic part-animated noir Who Framed Roger Rabbit. The LOCO festival, then, will be a relaxing way to brighten up these gloomy January evenings – book now to catch some of the great conversations and screenings taking place throughout the season at one of central London's best cinemas.
