American Sniper

Perhaps one of the most exciting war films since 2008’s Oscar-winning The Hurtlocker, Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper captures the tension and intensity of modern sniper warfare. With a knock-out cast and a trailer that leaves the viewer aghast this is sure to be one of the most exhilarating films of the New Year.
American Sniper tells the story of a US Navy SEAL commanded to protect his unit in a covert mission in Iraq. Our protagonist is Chris Kyle, real life war hero and generally considered to be the most lethal sniper in American military history. With 160 confirmed kills, four tours of Iraq and a mountain of medals to his name, Kyle became somewhat of a sensation within military circles. However, the human side to his story was laid out in his autobiography, in which he affirms that he does not count the kills he has made, only the potential lives his actions may have saved. Kyle will be played by Hollywood master Bradley Cooper (American Hustle, Silver Linings Playbook). Cooper’s recent turns in movies such as The Place Beyond The Pines have proved him just as capable of playing the brooding, sombre hero as he is his more familiar comic roles. Sienna Miller(Stardust), Luke Grimes (Taken 2) and Kyle Gallner (Red State) are just a few more names in this all-star cast, whilst a number of genuine ex-Navy SEALs will be portraying themselves.
Perhaps most enthralling, though, will be Clint Eastwood's direction. The movie has passed through the hands of various directors including David O. Russell and Steven Spielberg before Warner Bros eventually settled for the two-time Oscar winning director. With his keen eye for human drama and nerve-racking action, as so adeptly demonstrated in Unforgiven and Million Dollar Baby, Eastwood is surely the right man for this job.
