Two Days, One Night with the Dardenne Brothers, Curzon Mayfair
A preview of the stunning new Dardenne Brothers film starring Marion Cotillard, followed by Q&A with the directors themselves.
Two Days, One Night won rapturous acclaim at this year’s Cannes festival, continuing the Dardenne Brothers ' winning streak. To celebrate its UK release later this August, the Curzon Mayfair is hosting a special preview, followed by a Q&A with Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne themselves.
Deux Jours, Une Nuit stars Marion Cotillard as Sandra, a factory worker threatened with redundancy when her colleagues choose to retain their €1,000 bonuses rather than her job. She has a single weekend to convince them otherwise. The film is largely comprised of a series of mutually humiliating confrontations between Sandra and her fellow employees, each of which showcases Cotillard’s emotional subtly and the fears and desires of working class Walloons.
This is the first time the Dardenne Brothers have cast an established star in their films, which usually feature almost unknown Belgian locals. Over the course of their last seven highly regarded features, they have created a distinctive naturalist style that deals with normal people and their issues with unstinting documentary realism, crisp cinematography and an almost unparalleled lightness of touch. This will be a rare opportunity to hear the pair discuss their creative process and empathetic social ethos.
