In new musical romantic comedy film Begin Again, Keira Knightley- singing to Mark Ruffalo on the streets of New York- learns to get over heartbreak

If lighter fare is what you're after then Begin Again’s glossy musical romantic musings are a diverting way to pass a summer afternoon.

Mark Ruffalo stars alongside Keira Knightley in a cheery, music-filled rom-com from the director of Oscar-winning film and West End musical Once.

In the new film, disgraced music executive Dan (Ruffalo) is jobless and drunk when his ears are pricked by the mellifluous singing of unheralded songstress Gretta (Knightley). Gretta has been abandoned in New York by her musician boyfriend (Maroon 5’s impressively bearded Adam Levine) for another woman.

Inspired by her songs, Dan convinces Gretta to let him record her album. Their live, al fresco collaborations at various trendy New York locales blossom into a relationship that helps them both move on from their respective heartaches.

The film is lifted by pitch perfect performances from a typically rough, ready and charming Ruffalo, and his co-star Knightley- who exudes idealistic warmth in her role.

Featuring ample support in the form of CeeLo Green and James Corden, the big budget follow-up to Irish director John Carney’s Academy Award-winning 2007 film strikes the same feel-good chords.
