Secret Cinema: Back to the Future

Set your time machine for 1985 and enter Hill Valley 1955 for the next Secret Cinema outing, 'Back to the Future'.

For the uninitiated, Secret Cinema is a clandestine film-viewing event that transports its attendees directly to the world of the film they have booked to see. Each season the Cinema ‘club’ chooses a different classic film, and this season it Back to the Future (1985) that they have turned their experienced hands to recreating. It’s sure to be one of the filmic events of the year, and Culture Whisper has all of the mysterious details for you. 

Unlike some of Secret Cinema’s other month-long runs (Shawshank Redemption in particular!) Back to the Future is joyfully appropriate for families. Adults and children together will get to dive into replica DeLorean DMC-12s and travel back in time with Marty McFly (played by a young Michael J. Fox), escaping their lives to a world of scientific possibility, high school romance and deep synth undertones. Before settling down in front of the film itself, ticket holders can quite literally explore its worlds, recreated at a secret location somewhere in the capital, complete with props, actors and surprises.

Think of it as an exclusive theatrical performance, with a healthy dose of 80s nostalgia and Steven Spielberg driving the directorial team; a rare opportunity to be transported into another realm, and in this film’s case two realms, as punters are shuttled between the 1955 and 1985 sets. Secret Cinema founder Fabien Riggall has recently been quoted saying: “We will build an entire town, where audiences will live inside the world of Back To The Future. We will play heavily on the innocent dream-like Americana world of 1955 and the nostalgic pre-mobile phone world of 1985.”
