In Conversation with Leslie Caron, Electric Cinema
Screen legend Leslie Caron will participate in an 'In Conversation' and Q&A session following a screening of 'Gigi' at the Electric Cinema.
When Leslie Caron made her mesmerising debut, dancing opposite Gene Kelly in An American in Paris, a screen legend was born. The French dancer & actress then captivated Hollywood as the ingenue in Gigi (remember those heady Cecil Beaton costumes) & the dancing partner of Fred Astaire in Daddy Long Legs.
On June 22nd Caron will participate in an In Conversation and Q&A session (with freelance writer and Harper's Bazaar's Contributing Editor, Frances Wasem) at London's Electric Cinema - followed by a screening of Caron's chosen film, Gigi. She will discuss her memories of Hollywood's golden age and acting opposite legends such as Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly and Cary Grant. The interview will also touch on the challenges she faced in the Hollywood studio system and the roles that stretched her (Caron threw herself intensely into films & had to spend time recovering after bit scenes) such as that of Jane Fosset - the single, pregnant girl in Bryan Forbe's The L-Shaped Room (1962) for which Caron won a BAFTA. She will also, no doubt, talk about those unforgettable Beaton costumes.
Held in support of FilmAid. The evening is also the first of a series of In Conversations by Frances Wasem for Soho House.
