Nine to Five, BFI

A feminist revenge comedy is exactly what we need in 2018

Nine to Five, BFI
It’s a story that sounds all too familiar at the moment: three women are sick of being patronised and groped by their egomaniac (need we say male?) boss. But thankfully Nine to Five is a feminist revenge comedy, which means that the women can have a bit of fun.

This 1980s flick stars the mega trio Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin and the one and only Dolly Parton, whose song Nine to Five still gets crowds belting out their frustration at the daily grind. The onscreen chemistry makes for a hilarious watch. Fonda, Tomlin and Parton play frustrated secretaries who join forces and take matters into their own hands in a plot that includes kidnap and poison. They sure as hell won't be 'just a step on the boss-man's ladder'.

Nine to Five is consistently rated as one of the funniest films ever made. It also pretty much defines the term ‘girl power’. We can't wait to sit and watch with glee as the women get their own back.

Culture Whisper is offering Gold Whisper members free pairs of tickets to watch the film at the BFI on Sunday 18 March. Book now to avoid disappointment.
