Blade Runner Live, Royal Albert Hall

When seeing a film for the first time in cinemas, it doesn't always feel like history in the making – you sometimes need the retroactive gift of time to understand how many special elements there were at the time, to revisit and take them all in.

Ridley Scott's Blade Runner played its part in reshaping the cinematic landscape with its initial release in 1982, a re-release in 2007 and the release of a Ryan Gosling-starring sequel in 2017.

Now, the Royal Albert Hall is adding yet another layer to rediscover, with the world premiere of Blade Runner Live: a screening of the 2007 Final Cut, accompanied by an in-sync live performance of the unmistakable Vangelis score courtesy of the Avex Ensemble – a 14-piece musical ensemble featuring synthesizers, strings, brass, bass and percussion.

The film's legacy lives on through its visceral and innovative world-building abilities, which comes through in Harrison Ford's mesmeric performance visually as much as the sounds of a thousand synthesizers working in harmony.

In terms of the story, Ford plays detective Rick Deckard, on a mission to hunt down non-human threats named 'replicants' and protect life as we know it. But when he meets a replicant and falls in love, naturally, things become more complicated.
