Backyard Cinema: L.A. Nights, Roundhouse
A Star Is Born, The Greatest Showman and more – enjoy the best immersive outdoor screenings with Backyard Cinema in Camden this summer
All-day beach parties under golden skies tend to belong to a world we gaze at from overseas. The big smoke can often feel all too grey, while hazy Instagram impressions of Coachella relics tease all of our feeds in a faraway nostalgia. But this is where Backyard Cinema comes in – this summer, no need to travel any further than Chalk Farm to soak up the very best rays.
Camden's Roundhouse is getting a major retro makeover, as L.A. Nights promises a season recreating the unmistakable Venice Beach. Pull up a bean bag on the sand, gaze up at the giant palm trees and savour an exotic cocktail under the bohemian (but always covered! No ponchos here...) beachscape.
Backyard Cinema have prepared a dazzling line-up of buzzy titles to enjoy – whether it's on a romantic night out, a day trip with the kids or a party with friends. Revisit all the big awards contenders, with screenings of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, BlacKkKlansman and A Star Is Born, as well as older classics including Back to the Future and Clueless.
If you prefer your musical parties with an interactive edge, they've planned for that, too, as you can book in for one of many sing-a-long screenings in the programme. Oscar-winner Bohemian Rhapsody will be playing loud, as well as Hugh Jackman's ring-led musical The Greatest Showman and irreplaceable classics such as Dirty Dancing and Grease.
While there are plenty of pop-ups to choose from, L.A. Nights cuts no corners to offer cinema-goers an immersive, all-in sunkissed experience. With variety, stars, entertainment and plenty more surprises in store – it's undeniable that Backyard have outdone themselves, and those distant L.A. lights won't seem so enviable for much longer. The grass is green enough right here.
