How to nail a perfect spring makeup look
Eleonore: How do you approach makeup in Spring (different light, skin texture different, how to prep your skin...)
Marco: Makeup in spring should be fresh, glowing and natural, inspired by the season's colours and trends. Focus and start on a radiant base, is all about soft, pastel colours such as lilacs, pinks, and corals. Experiment with these shades in your eyeshadows, lipsticks, and nail polishes. The key to spring makeup is to keep it natural and effortless. Avoid heavy makeup, and focus on enhancing your natural features. Sometimes a touch of mascara and a tinted lip balm might be all you need to look fresh and glowing.
Eleonore: What are the Spring 2023 makeup trends? Which ones are you favourite and would you recreate them ?
Marco: My top trend would be colourful pigment and I was lucky enough to create a version of it for the pages of Elle magazine on a CHANEL Special. To create this look I used the following products:
N°1 de CHANEL Revitalising Serum-In-Mist, N°1 de CHANEL Rich Revitalising Cream,
N°1 de CHANEL Revitalising Foundation in BD31 and CHANEL Poudre Universelle Libre Loose Powder in 20 on skin,
CHANEL Baume Essentiel Multi-use Glow Stick in Rouge Frais and CHANEL Rouge Allure Velvet in 45 - Intense on eyes and cheeks,
CHANEL Noir Allure Mascara in 10 - Noir on lashes,
CHANEL Le Gel Sourcils Eyebrow Gel in 350 - Transparent and
CHANEL Stylo Sourcils Waterproof Eyebrow Pencil in - Ébéne on brows and CHANEL Rouge Allure Velvet in 51 - Légendaire on lips.
Eleonore: Everyone is talking about quiet luxury dressing at the moment. Does it translate into makeup? And if so how?
Marco: This approach can certainly be translated into makeup, as the focus is on enhancing your natural features with subtle, yet high-quality products.
The Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Bronzing is a perfect example for a subtle quiet luxury. It warms up the skin, creating the illusion of having spent a weekend in a sunny place. It now comes in a travel size - 15g - if you fancy taking it with you on an actual holiday. Avoid heavy eyeliner or bright lipstick, and instead, focus on creating a natural, effortless look. Stick to neutral, earthy tones and keep it simple and understated and this would be perfect for spring / summer 2023.
Eleonore: I saw models wearing minimalist makeup during SS23 which I found so attractive. I would love to be able to recreate the vibe now that the days become warmer. But with the bright light, I feel like it is a bit of a balancing act between looking natural and hide our grey winter skin and dark circles. Any tricks?
Marco: To recreate a minimalist makeup look best thing to do is to use only a small amount of each product, and to blend everything out well. With these tips you can effectively hide dark circles with natural makeup: - start by applying a colour corrector in a peach or orange shade to neutralise the blue or purple tones of your dark circles.
Product
Apply the corrector with your fingers or a small brush and blend it out until it looks seamless (choose a lightweight concealer that matches your skin tone, or is one shade lighter).
Use a translucent or lightweight setting powder to set the concealer in place. While it's important to conceal your dark circles, it's also important to focus on other areas of your face, like your brows and lips, to create a balanced, natural look.
To add radiance and a sun-kissed glow, I would always turn to the CHANEL Le Beiges Bronzing Cream. It is a staple in my kit and I am never without it! The new mini size is perfect for on-the-go touch ups to warm up your winter skin. Apply with a stippled brush all over the face for a the quickest sun-tan in a jar.
Eleonore: Your do’s and don’ts for this season?
Marco: Here are some do's and don'ts for this season:
Do's
Do go for lightweight, breathable formulas like tinted moisturizers, CC creams, and water-based foundations to avoid a heavy, cakey look.
Do embrace bright colours: spring and summer are the perfect time to experiment with bright, bold colours. Try incorporating these colours into your eyeshadows, lipsticks, and nail polishes.
Do focus on your skin: with a fresh, glowing complexion, you won't need to apply as much makeup.
Invest in skincare to achieve healthy, radiant skin.
Don’ts
Don't go overboard with the shimmer: while shimmer can add a beautiful glow, too much of it can look unnatural and overdone.
Don't use heavy, matte formulas: heavy, matte formulas can look cakey and mask-like in the warmer months. Stick to lightweight formulas for a natural, fresh look.
Don't forget to touch up: With the heat and humidity, your makeup may need some touch-ups throughout the day. Keep a compact mirror and blotting papers on hand to keep your makeup looking fresh.
