Bridget Christie, Kevin Eldon, Josie Long: Invisible Dot in the West End
Three of the very best in the Invisible Dot's inaugural West End run...
The Invisible Dot – London’s foremost indie comedy venue – is on the brink of its fifth birthday and embarking on its first ever West End season.
To celebrate five years since the Dot’s humble beginnings in Camden Stables Market, and a wealth of investment in the grass-roots of standup since then, it’s sending a handful of A-list acts to the Duchess Theatre for an exciting two week run.
On 26 April the Dot’s ever popular Saturday Night Show transfers to the big stage with three of the biggest names on the circuit. 2013 Edinburgh Comedy Award-winner Bridget Christie headlines, aided and abetted by sketch-show veteran Kevin Eldon and radio's favourite feminist Josie Long.
Christie comes to the Duchess off the back of a sell-out run of her Soho Theatre show A Bic For Her: a sophisticated takedown of institutionalised sexism from which not even ball-point pens are safe. If you’re familiar with her acclaimed BBC Radio 4 series (Bridget Christie Minds the Gap) and 2013 TV act on Comedy Central’s Alternative Comedy Experience, you’ll know hers is intelligent, silly and unapologetically feminist fare with touches of the absurd.
The brilliant Kevin Eldon is the most prolific comedian that only aficionados tend to know by name. If you’re a sitcom fan we can all but guarantee he’s had a part in some of your favourite TV shows. His own star-cameo-encrusted BBC sketch show It’s Kevin aired to huge and deserved acclaim on BBC2 last year.
Josie Long is one of the biggest movers and shakers in the Alternative Comedy Revival of recent years, and a passionate feminist idealist recently dubbed by the Evening Standard as ‘London’s Lena Dunham’. She won the BBC New Comedy Award when she was just 17 and carries the enviable pedigree of starting her career supporting influential stand-up comedy tone-setter Stewart Lee. If you’re a Radio 4 listener you might well recognise her as the presenter of October 2013’s Short Cuts mini-documentary series, and numerous other shows besides. This year she’s been on fine form with a BAFTA Scotland-nominated film tour.
Together they’re three of the sharpest, funniest and most intelligent comedians around. This will be a rare and truly resplendent evening.
