It’s winter. We all want to build a nest and watch a film or two over our cherished weekends. But this film festival isn’t your average hibernation. Held inside a gleaming white mansion on The Mall, with a fantastic programme curated by Little White Lies, the country's foremost alternative film magazine? Doesn't that sound like a far more salubrious affair than a blanket, a sofa and a pot of tea?

This is the Little White Lies Weekender, being held at the ICA this weekend, (Friday 6 to Sunday 8 December) to celebrate the magazine's fiftieth issue.

The programme is composed mostly of alternative cinema's cult classics. Among others, we've got David Lynch's Mulholland Drive (2001), Hirokazu Kore-eda's Still Walking (2009) and Paul Thomas Anderson's Punch Drunk Love (2007) - a film notable for the unusually excellent performance given by Adam Sandler of all people, who plays the lead.

A highlight on the programme is Wanda; a sadly under-watched 1970's road movie written, starred in and directed by Barbara Loden. One of the few successful films in its period to have been made by a woman, Wanda tells the story of a housewife who abandons her family and goes on the run with a small time crook. It's a sensitive inclusion on the programme, and its definitely worth a watch.

Oh, and on the Friday there's an exclusive preview of as yet un-seen film, due for UK release next year. The organisers haven’t released definite details, but they have said it's an English language film by an American director. Grand Budapest Hotel by Wes Anderson? We'll have to wait and see.

£40 buys you access for the whole weekend, and, with screenings running from one 'till ten thirty on the Saturday and Sunday, frankly, it would be cheap at double.
