Now she will be returning to the Young Vic and reuniting with writer Colin Teevan (Kafka's Monkey) to play a whole cast of characters in Teevan's adaptation of a Polish tale of absolute power.
Written by journalist Ryszard Kapuściński, who's known for literary works that merge fact and fiction, The Emperor is about a tyrannical ruler on the cusp of losing control. The loss of power is told through the eyes of the leader's staff and subjects. Kathryn Hunter will play each and every part, in what's set to be a mind-boggling selection of postures and voices.
The show is a co-production with HOME Manchester and Les Theatres de la Ville de Luxembourg and after its world premiere at the Maria Theatre at the Young Vic, The Emperor will transfer to Manchester.
