While the delight resides in the surprise with any circus show, highlights include the perilous stunts of Tropicana Troupe, who catapult themselves high into the air with ungainly looking springboards, and the seriously impressive balancing acts by the world renowned footjuggler, Germaine: it's an unexpected performance that will have you gaping with amazement from beginning to end.
The Berserk clown, Tweedy, provides a little light relief in between the most nail-biting of stunts and the team of Berserk aerialists add a splash of ethereal mystique. The cabaret dancers' sparkly, spangly costumes, generous flashes of leg, and copious swishing of tail feathers bestow a cheeky overtone to an otherwise quite serious show. Laci's bare and muscular torso gives the girls and boys something to gawp at, too. There is not a single dull act in this diversely thrilling show.
It's a daredevil ride, but unlike Soho's recent showcase of La Soirée, there is no below-the belt bawdy comedy here. Don't think about booking near the front of the theatre, though, unless you're game for getting up on stage. During press night, two poor unsuspecting gentlemen were well and truly flummoxed by Tweedy's slapstick moves; the audience, of course, was in stitches.
Cirque Berserk is hair-raising fun that will have you gripping the edge of your seat from start to finish.
