Following a sell-out run last year, Kevin Spacey returns to the tread the boards of the Old Vic as civil-rights lawyer Clarence Darrow. This one-man play, which opens for a short run of just 22 shows this March, exploits the theatre’s in-the-round format and offers a particularly intimate theatrical encounter.
Clarence Darrow was a controversial American human rights lawyer, widely celebrated for both his pioneering advocacy and subversive wit. He appeared in many notorious trials, defending the child killers Leopold and Loeb, who received life sentences instead of the death penalty, and John T Scopes in the so-called “Scopes Monkey Trial”, in which the Tennessee teacher was prosecuted for illegally teaching the theory of evolution.
Spacey’s performance last year was a triumph and tickets will be hotly in demand.
Priority booking is now open; general sale opens on 30 January.
