The regular duo partners will play a pair
of violin sonatas from the masters of the classical repertoire. First up is Beethoven’s Violin Sonata No. 10
(1812), the composer’s last work in the genre. Across its four movements, it
contains some of the loveliest music the old curmudgeon ever wrote, with a
sky-seeking delicacy that nonetheless requires great technical talent. It will
be joined by Brahms’ Violin
Sonata No. 2 (1886), perhaps
the romantic equivalent to Beethoven’s work in both its joyful radiance and its
demanding score. Paired together under Benedetti and Grynyuk, these two
masterpieces should make for a delightful afternoon.
