Is fashion art? It's a question that creatives have been asking themselves for over half a century. The two have often intertwined. Just consider Viktor & Rolf's couture show in July this year, in which canvases apparently burst from their frames were crimped around the bodies of models; or the up-and-coming Chanel retrospective at the Saatchi gallery, in which Coco Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld's designs are displayed as art in a museum.
This September, Harvey Nichols is spending the month contemplating the question, celebrating designers who boldly use colour, texture and silhouette with a series of calendar events.
'The Art of Style' features a wealth of customer experiences, exclusives and - best of all - designer talks, including J.W. Anderson in conversation with editor-at-large at Business of Fashion, Tim Blanks.
Here are the highlights from what's on at Harvey Nichols this Autumn
Enjoy a panel discussion on 'The Art of Style' in partnership with the Tate on the 23 September, 6.30-9.30pm in the Fifth Floor Restaurant at Harvey Nichols Knightsbridge. Tickets are available to purchase online and via emailing: stylist@harveynichols.com
Spruce yourself up with a Trish McEvoy beauty masterclass on the 24th September, from 12pm - 8pm with three classes throughout the afternoon with champagne and canapés throughout.
Pick up the Serbian fashion designer Roskanda's collection '10 years, 10 Dresses', celebrating the brand's 10 year anniversary, and Osman Yousefzada’s architectural and expertly tailored trousers - a brand much loved by celebrities Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Thandie Newton.
Get involved with Harvey Nichols' Mrs Rodial project, buy buying the new Harvey Nichols make-up bag, designed by the winning Central Saint Martin's students' entry, as decided by Erin O'Connor, Henry Holland, Jackie Annesley and Daniela Rinaldi (Harey Nichols Commercial director) and Rodial's President, Maria Hatzistenfanis.
All of this, of course, before getting your hands on the exclusive J.W.Anderson Diet Cokes, inspired by the designers autumn/winter 2015 knitwear and admiring the Harvey Nichols windows, modelled on the Tate's latest exhibition 'The World Goes Pop.'

So, with all that in mind, it's clear that fashion can be busy, exciting and feel-good. But can it be art?
