Lucian Freud: Girl, Ordovas

This new secret gem of a show in the tucked away Mayfair gallery, Ordovas, shines a light on one of Britain's most famous artists and the portraits he made of Lady Caroline Blackwood. We all know the stories of Lucian Freud's lothario ways, rumoured to have had 500 lovers, but this exhibition focuses on a particular relationship which shaped the famous artist's life. 
Lucian Freud had a whirlwind affair with the 4th Marquess of Dufferin and Ava's oldest child in the 1950s and eloped with her when she was just 22-years-old. The paintings on display in this London exhibition capture the couple's ferocious passion and the curious way that Freud painted this young girl as an older, lined woman. These works are often criticised for being brutal and aggressive, but we can't help but be fascinated by their tender fragility.  Blackwood went on to become a stellar author, winning a number of literary prizes, and after her divorce 6 years later from the turbulent artist she remarried twice.
This exhibition is a hidden wonder in central London and the perfect opportunity to catch one of our favourite painters in the quieter surroundings of a Mayfair commercial gallery.
