Richard Caring is set to open a new branch of the West End's iconic restaurant The Ivy, on the King’s Road later this month. This new West London offshoot, The Ivy Chelsea Garden is likely to become a popular haunt amongst Chelsea locals and tourists to the Royal Borough's famous shopping district.
'Will give Chelsea's flagging restaurant scene a much needed facelift'
The new restaurant will cover a large outdoor space, complete with orangery, terrace and garden and replete with the heady scent of wisteria and roses, proposing to offer calm respite for tired shoppers on Chelsea's King's Road. Inside, a bar, cafe, lounge and restaurant will be serving everything from breakfast to elevenses, lunch and dinner. The new venue will give Chelsea's flagging restaurant scene a much needed facelift – whether or not it means Chelsea will once again become a hot restaurant destination is yet to be seen, but it may just put it back on London's gastronomical map.
About The Ivy
The Ivy, in the heart of London's West End, has since the '80s been a favourite among celebrities and the upper echelons of the London literati: a previous extension to Covent Garden with The Ivy Market Grill gave their established name a revamp, bringing a more relaxed form of fine dining to central London's busy shopping hub. Their latest venture with its casual, all-day dining vibe, reflects this inclusive rebrand, but is still likely to be discerning about its brand of clientèle.
The new venue
A Grade II-listed building on the King's Road dating back from the 18th century will prove a suitably glamorous setting. The Ivy Chelsea Garden's marble and parquet interiors are the work of Swedish designer Martin Brudnizki, the man behind sleek London hotspots like Scott’s, the Holborn Dining Room and Jackson & Rye.
On the menu
Executive chef Sean Burbidge has overseen the menu, which includes mouthwatering dishes like yellowfin tuna carpaccio and spiced avocado, or a chopped lobster rigatoni bake that's sure to cause a stir on Twitter. Keep room for dessert though: the melting chocolate bombe with milk foam, vanilla ice cream and a honeycomb centre promises to be too good to share.
The opening puts the Royal Borough back on the map after a frenzy of openings in the West End and East London. With enviable al fresco setting, all-day dining and a cocktail menu worth the trip West alone, all we need now is some sunshine and a suitably lazy afternoon.
