One of London’s oldest supper clubs, Bootleg Banquet host fantastical feasts in the heart of Shoreditch. It is the side project of Pieter Maritz, a South African chef and boutique caterer who worked under Ruth Rogers at The River Café. This prestigious background shows in Maritz’s cooking, with his complex three or four course meals always prepared to perfection.
What makes Bootleg Banquets a little different are their playful themes, which are artfully alluded to in the cooking. Previous themes include a Tarantino night complete with a soundtrack from his most popular films, and a lavish Thanksgiving feast. Next up will be their ghoulish Halloween banquet, with squid ink linguine and barbecued beef back ribs. We are also excited for dessert, which promises to be a “Baked Alaska Ghost”, whatever that might be...
The suppers take place in an industrial open kitchen which provides a blank canvas for the Bootleg team to let their imaginations run wild. Even the more laid back evenings will see the space filled with fresh flowers and twinkling tea lights, all of which ensures your Bootleg Banquet will be a night to remember.
